The end of 2023 witnessed a deceleration in inflation, which is a positive sign for the year ahead, however employers must remember that people will still be grappling with the cost of living.

Regardless of the inflation rate, this year, many individuals will be seeking employment opportunities that provide them with the necessary salary and benefits to sustain themselves.

We conducted a survey of 5,000 UK workers, to inform our annual suite of salary guides, in November 2023, and provide a comprehensive overview of the needs and wants of the UK workforce. Notably, 55% of respondents are either actively searching for or contemplating a new job. The primary reasons for seeking new employment opportunities include inadequate pay, better prospects elsewhere, subpar benefits, and a toxic work environment.

It’s the people working in organisations that make the difference, so it’s important that companies do all they can to offer the best remuneration packages to attract new, good quality hires and to retain their best people.

With this in mind, we want to give you the best advice to ensure your company is seen as a good place to work, we want your people to look forward to starting work on a Monday morning!

Our panellists included:

  • James Reed CBE, Chairman and CEO, Reed

  • Chris Adcock, Managing Director, Reed Technology

  • Claire Harvey, Managing Director - UK Network, Reed

  • Lucie Daluiso, Divisional Managing Director - Further Education, Reed

  • Adam Buckland, Divisional Managing Director - Scientific, Reed

The panellists discussed best practice when it comes to salaries, benefits, candidate attraction, employer branding and employee engagement in their specialist sectors. As well as utilising data and insights from our annual suite of salary guides to inform and support your recruitment strategy for 2024.
