The morning after the chancellor’s autumn Budget, join BBC Verify’s Ben Chu at RSA House, London, as he presents an in-depth and timely analysis of the fiscal measures shaping the UK’s economic future. This event is designed to provide finance professionals and business leaders with the insights they need to navigate the challenges ahead – plus, there’s a free breakfast roll and tea and coffee included.
This year’s Budget comes against the backdrop of a £30 billion government spending shortfall, rising borrowing costs, and persistent inflation. Tax increases are expected to play a central role in addressing these fiscal pressures, with potential changes to income tax thresholds, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax already on the horizon. Even without new policies, frozen thresholds and rising asset values are set to increase tax burdens for many.
BBC Verify’s Policy and Analysis Correspondent, Ben Chu, will cut through the headlines and political rhetoric to assess the real implications of these fiscal choices. He will explore how the Budget impacts growth, investment, and competitiveness, while offering actionable strategies to mitigate the effects of rising taxes.
Key topics:
Tax increases:
Analysis of the chancellor’s expected tax policies, including the extension of frozen income tax thresholds and potential changes to capital gains tax and inheritance tax.
Economic landscape:
Insights into the UK’s economic challenges, including inflation, rising borrowing costs, and the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Practical strategies:
Tips to shield yourself and your business from the impact of tax increases, such as leveraging pension and ISA allowances, planning as a family, and exploring tax-efficient investment options.
