About our speaker, Natalie Carpenter
Natalie has worked in education since 2003. She began her educational journey teaching primary for 13 years with specialisms in Science and PSHE.
In 2015 Natalie began her EP journey and became an assistant EP. Natalie then went on to train at IOE in 2016. Sadly her 2 children were diagnosed with cancer in this time, one survived and was left with an acquired brain injury while the other she was devastated to lose. This gave her lived experience of navigating the world of SEND, childhood grief and the very real impacts of a medicalised upbringing. This informed her thesis which looked at supporting teachers in a specialist setting to navigate the complexities of the RSHE curriculum.
Natalie went on to qualify in 2021, publish her research in 2023 and have her research informed RSHE training commissioned by public health. She is now a senior psychologist at Hertfordshire, where she works part time. When she isn't working for Hertfordshire she is performing her role as trustee and wellbeing lead at Alice’s Arc (a participatory and family led children cancer charity) and running Holding Hearts Psychology- her own psychology practice which specialises in child loss and bereavement.
