Whereas ‘the change’ was once whispered about behind closed doors, it is now more widely acknowledged in society.

That being said, according to The Menopause and the Workplace report by the Fawcett Society and Channel 4, 10% of women leave the workforce due to menopause, while one-in-four consider leaving. Coping with symptoms in the workplace can be hard, especially as many women find it difficult to discuss the matter with anyone.

The menopausal transition affects each woman uniquely, which makes it imperative to address the stigma usually associated with menopause and spread accurate knowledge and awareness on the subject.

In this webinar, Jenny Haskey, CEO of The Menopause Charity, Diane Danzebrink, Founder of Menopause Support, Louise Hymers, Marketing Manager at PwC and Helen Clark, Reed’s Divisional Director - Health & Care, explored how businesses can adapt their internal policies to support employees going through menopause, helping women continue to work comfortably.

Jenny Haskey, CEO, The Menopause Charity

Jenny joined The Menopause Charity in September 2021 having led, advised and worked with healthcare charities for 18 years. Jenny is passionate about inclusive, patient-centred care and ensuring everyone understands the mental and physical changes that occur during perimenopause and menopause.

The Menopause Charity provides trusted information and support to those experiencing menopause, to understand the changes that are happening to them and know what to do next. The charity also helps family, friends, co-workers, employers, health care professionals and key workers, providing the information and resources to help them offer the right support.

Diane Danzebrink, Founder, Menopause Support

Diane is a personal and corporate consultant, speaker, and educator, passionate about menopause and mental health. She is the founder of menopausesupport.co.uk and has led the call for better menopause care and support in the UK with her #MakeMenopauseMatter campaign.

The campaign has been instrumental in ensuring menopause is now on the RSHE curriculum in schools in England and that medical students will learn about menopause from 2024.

Diane is regularly invited to comment on menopause and mental health in the media. She has appeared on This Morning, Good Morning Britain, Loose Women, Lorraine, BBC Breakfast, ITV, Channel 4, and Sky News. Diane has contributed to several books about menopause and mental health and wellness, and is currently writing her first book.

Louise Hymers, Marketing Manager, PwC

Throughout more than 30 years with PwC, Louise has championed community and charity efforts and always tried to focus on her ability to care for colleagues, the community and her wider networks.

While going through a debilitating and challenging perimenopause, before and during lockdown, she wanted to transform women’s experience of menopause in the workplace, feeling their needed to be more done to raise awareness, educate and provide support for other colleagues, even when some of those conversations might be difficult to have.

Louise launched Menopause Matters at PwC in 2020, offering a network of women a safe space to ask questions, share advice and speak to others that are going through similar experiences.

Helen Clark, Divisional Director - Health & Care, Reed

Helen has worked in health and care recruitment for over 20 years and began her career with Reed in 2000. She is now a divisional director and responsible for the highly skilled teams of health and care recruiters across the UK, in both the temporary and permanent recruitment markets.

Helen is passionate about raising awareness about the menopause and the effect it can have on daily life, while offering guidance to those employers looking to enhance their support systems for those going through menopause.
