Nearly 10 million workers have had their wages paid by the government furlough scheme as a result of being unable to do their job due to the coronavirus.
Designed to prevent mass redundancies, the scheme’s end date now looms and companies up and down the UK are faced with a decision of whether to return their employees, or in some cases make redundancies.
HR professionals in those companies who are reintroducing staff are faced with a number of challenges. Many workers have been out of the working environment for months and in most cases lots of changes have been made to accommodate the ‘new normal’.
During this panel discussion, we explored what steps need to be taken when welcoming employees back. Should they be re-inducted into the company? How do you look after their mental wellbeing? What needs to be done to ensure there is a smooth transition? How do you manage resentment between those who have remained in their post throughout the pandemic and those returning?
