Our survey ‘The new normal: Skills for success’ asked 2,000 people, both employed and unemployed:

  • About their training and development over the last six months

  • How the Covid-19 pandemic has affected their development

  • How their career paths have changed

We also asked almost 500 employers about the skills they want in their workforce and how this has changed since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Whether you are looking for work, or are currently employed and want to progress your career – there has never been a better time to upskill or reskill yourself. This guide
will give you all the tools you need to learn new – or improve existing – skills to help you stand out from the competition.

Some of the key highlights in the guide include:
  • The best ways to quickly upskill yourself in key areas

  • The top skills UK employers are looking for

  • Upskilling for a promotion, future proofing or getting a new job

Why is upskilling so important right now?
  • Take on the competition: The job market has become increasingly competitive, with applications up 55% compared to the start of the year

  • Stand out from the crowd: 36% of jobseekers have upskilled themselves in the last year, not doing so could put you at a disadvantage

  • Shorten your job search: 31% of those out of work have been searching for their next job for three months or more. Of those that had been made redundant, 23% have applied for at least 50 jobs
