Business Rates Supervisor

Join a leading business service provider in the UK, as a Business Rates Supervisor. This role is crucial for managing and recovering Business Rates debts efficiently, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining high standards of documentation and customer service.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Process documents for Business Rates accounts in line with agreed processes.
  • Review daily tasks, prioritise, and assist in increasing collection rates.
  • Allocate work to officers and monitor quality and performance.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor officers.
  • Liaise with IT to request reports to assist with collection and data cleansing.
  • Proactively manage account housekeeping and debt chasing.
  • Undertake tracing functions including company search for account payers.
  • Maintain and update Business Rates debtor records to ensure accurate billing and collection of outstanding debts.
  • Process recovery administrative documents and assist in summons surgeries.
  • Attend NNDR recovery appointment meetings and monthly Summons court hearings.
  • Refer cases to Enforcement Agents and process returned cases for next recovery action.
  • Identify and prepare cases for charging orders and bankruptcies.
  • Ensure knowledge is up-to-date in relation to Business Rates KPIs and SLA, and company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required, commensurate with grade and responsibility.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • GCSE level education or equivalent with minimum of 5 grades A-C including English and Maths.
  • Proven experience in the Revenues and debt recovery field, with good knowledge of Business Rates regulations.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with various stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to debt recovery.
  • Ability to produce high-quality and accurate documentation.
  • Team player, able to assist other team members to meet KPIs and SLA.
  • Flexible approach to work, managing peaks in workload and undertaking overtime during peak periods if required.
  • Able to work independently, meeting agreed targets by prioritising and planning.
  • Proficient in Academy (NEC), Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
