Office based BDM role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and customer-focused Business Development Manager to join a growing organisation within the business and fleet services sector. This role is responsible for driving new business growth, managing customer relationships, delivering tailored solutions, and maximising customer retention through exceptional service and proactive account management. This is an office-based role within Colchester. 

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and converting sales opportunities, managing renewals, and supporting the continued growth of the company's business portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Generation & Pipeline Management

  • Build and maintain a comprehensive database of prospective business and fleet customers.
  • Proactively identify and generate new sales opportunities through networking, referrals, marketing activity, and outbound business development.
  • Manage CRM and scheduling systems to ensure all quotations, follow-ups, and customer communications are completed effectively and on time.

Sales, Conversion & Retention

  • Convert qualified leads into active customers, consistently achieving sales and revenue targets.
  • Develop long-term relationships with clients to maximise retention and renewal opportunities.
  • Manage the renewal process from start to finish, including customer engagement, policy reviews, and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell additional services where appropriate.

Business Development & Growth Strategy

  • Develop a strong understanding of the company's products and services to confidently position solutions in the marketplace.
  • Gather market intelligence and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities and improve customer engagement.
  • Review customer offerings and make recommendations for enhancements based on market trends and client needs.
  • Implement consistent communication strategies to strengthen client relationships.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience within Sales, Business Development, Account Management, or Customer Relationship Management.
  • Previous experience developing and managing a sales pipeline.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and customer follow-ups simultaneously.
  • Experience working with CRM systems and maintaining accurate customer records.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Professional, proactive, and customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
  • Results-driven with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets.

Desirable

  • Experience within fleet services, automotive services, insurance, membership services, or a related B2B environment.
  • Understanding of customer retention and renewal strategies.
  • Experience analysing sales data and producing performance reports.
