Childcare Advocate (Solicitor or Barrister)

Locum Opportunity | £60 per hour Umbrella | Up to 36 Hours Per Week

Are you a UK Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate and a strong background in public children law?

An established London local authority legal team is seeking an experienced Childcare Advocate to provide advocacy support across a busy and highly regarded Children's Services legal function.

The Role

This position is focused primarily on advocacy within public law childcare proceedings. You will be responsible for conducting hearings on behalf of the local authority, ensuring robust representation in the Family Court.

Unlike traditional childcare positions, this role does not carry a caseload, allowing you to focus on advocacy and court work.

When hearings are not scheduled, you will support the wider team through activities such as:

  • Drafting legal advice and documentation
  • Assisting with case preparation
  • Delivering training and guidance where required
  • Supporting service improvement initiatives across the legal team

About You

To be considered, you must:

  • Be a UK Qualified Solicitor or Barrister
  • Hold a current practising certificate
  • Have substantial experience handling public law childcare matters
  • Be confident conducting hearings independently within the Family Court
  • Possess strong advocacy, communication and relationship-building skills
  • Have experience working for a local authority legal team or within a public sector childcare environment

What's on Offer?

  • £60 per hour Umbrella
  • Maximum 36 hours per week
  • Advocacy-focused role with no caseload management responsibilities
  • Opportunity to work within a supportive and experienced local government legal team
  • Hybrid working arrangement available

This opportunity would suit a skilled childcare advocate who enjoys court work and is looking for a role where they can focus on delivering high-quality advocacy within public law proceedings.

Please note: Applications will only be considered from UK Qualified Solicitors or Barristers holding a current practising certificate.
