Salary: Up to £45,000

A well-established and growing accountancy practice in Braintree is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Accountant to join its expanding team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practice professional seeking a varied role with a diverse client portfolio, genuine career progression and the opportunity to work closely with both clients and senior management.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing a portfolio of clients while delivering a broad range of accounting, tax and advisory services. You will play a key role in maintaining strong client relationships and supporting the development of junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing year-end accounts for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies
  • Producing management accounts and financial reports
  • Preparing and reviewing VAT returns
  • Preparing personal and corporate tax returns
  • Managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Assisting clients with cloud accounting software, including Xero and QuickBooks
  • Reviewing bookkeeping work and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Supporting partners with ad hoc projects and advisory work
  • Ensuring all client deadlines are met efficiently and accurately

About You

  • Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice
  • ACA, ACCA, AAT qualified or qualified by experience
  • Strong experience preparing accounts for a variety of business entities
  • Sound knowledge of VAT, bookkeeping and tax compliance
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, IRIS or CCH
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage workloads effectively and work independently
