• Job Type: Hybrid (Wednesday's in office)
• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Join our team as a Revenue and Debt Officer, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient billing, collection, and recovery of various debts including Council Tax, Business Rates, and more, in accordance with legislation and council policies. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple responsibilities and maintain high standards of customer service.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Establish and validate correct liabilities, applying discounts and exemptions where applicable, and identifying the correct liable parties.
• Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and decisions regarding liability details across various databases and IT systems.
• Resolve customer enquiries through multiple channels such as phone, email, and social media, ensuring high-quality customer service.
• Promote and support the use of alternative service channels to reduce demand and facilitate channel migration.
• Negotiate repayment arrangements and monitor compliance, balancing customer circumstances with the council's financial interests.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including Audit and Investigations and the National Fraud Initiative, to ensure effective debt recovery.
• Report property changes to the Valuation Office Agency and handle related discrepancies or enquiries.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of services, suggesting and implementing enhancements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Detailed knowledge of legislation related to debt recovery, including taking control of goods and insolvency.
• Experience in handling complex customer enquiries and maintaining detailed records.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
• Proficiency in using IT systems relevant to billing and debt recovery.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
