Our client, Birmingham Children’s Trust, is seeking an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO).
This is a temporary ongoing post, paid at £38 per hour.

The role will involve the following:
- Chair statutory Child in Care Reviews and other review meetings as required, ensuring that all statutory requirements, regulations and procedures are followed.
- Ensure that care plans reflect the child or young person’s current circumstances, assessed needs, wishes and long-term aspirations.
- Promote effective permanence planning and ensure suitable arrangements are in place to achieve timely and sustainable permanence for children and young people.
- Monitor progress against agreed care plans and ensure that actions and decisions are implemented within required timescales.
- Participate in meetings and professional discussions relating to individual children where this supports the effective delivery of the IRO role.
- Child-centred practice
- Independent oversight and challenge
- Quality assurance and service improvement
Requirements of the role:
- Qualified Social Worker
- Fully Social Work England registered
- 3 years post-qualified experience in employment of a local authority (DFE rules)
- Must have experience as a CP Chair or IRO
