Commercial Buyer - Scrap Metal

The Opportunity

A well-established and growing business within the metal recycling sector is seeking an experienced Commercial Buyer to support the procurement and sourcing of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal across the region. This is a commercially focused role that will play a key part in developing supplier relationships, securing profitable material streams, and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective scrap metal suppliers.

• Source and purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals at commercially competitive rates.

• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements.

• Identify and secure new business opportunities within the region.

• Conduct supplier and site visits to assess material quality, volumes, and logistical requirements.

• Monitor commodity markets, pricing movements, and competitor activity.

• Work closely with operational teams to ensure efficient collection and processing of materials.

• Maintain accurate purchasing records and customer information.

• Achieve agreed purchasing targets and contribute to overall business growth.

• Represent the business professionally within the industry and marketplace.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 2 years' experience within the scrap metal recycling industry.

• Proven background purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.

• Strong understanding of metal grades, specifications, pricing structures, and market dynamics.

• Established contacts within scrap metal, recycling, demolition, manufacturing, or waste management sectors.

• Excellent negotiation, influencing, and relationship-building skills.

• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify profitable buying opportunities.

• Self-motivated and capable of working independently across a regional territory.

• Full UK driving licence.

• Willingness to travel extensively throughout East Anglia and the East Midlands.

Desirable Requirements

• Existing portfolio of suppliers and industry contacts.

• Previous experience within metal recycling, waste management, commodity trading, or related sectors.

• Understanding of environmental and waste compliance requirements associated with metal recycling activities.
