We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation in the engineering sector, seeking an Accounts Assistant to join their expanding team. This role plays a key part in supporting the smooth running of finance functions across multiple business areas. The ideal candidate will be highly organised and numerate, with a strong customer focus, alongside excellent IT proficiency and time management skills.
Day-to-day of the role:
Cash Book Management: Record all receipts and payments, perform initial reconciliations matching transactions listed on the cash book with bank statements, and process data in SAP, reconciled daily.
Sales Ledger: Handle reconciliation of ledger accounts and produce statements and reports.
Purchase Ledger: Input all supplier invoices, track outstanding balances, organise BACS payments, and produce remittances and reports on refunds owed.
Credit Control: Process credit applications, track and report outstanding debts, and recommend actions such as Solicitors Letters.
Expense Management: Post monthly expenses and manage petty cash, recording small cash transactions compiled from petty cash vouchers.
Credit Card Processing: Manage allocation of cost centres, match receipts, and handle reimbursement of non-company expenses.
Customer Service: Answer incoming telephone queries and maintain effective relationships with current customers.
Ad Hoc Duties: Perform additional tasks as required by the financial controller on a day-to-day basis.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in an account's assistant role or similar.
Excellent organisational, numeracy, and IT skills.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Experience with accounting systems, particularly SAP, is highly desirable.
AAT qualification is preferred but not essential.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good telephone manner and customer-focused approach.
