Senior Bookkeeper (Part-Time, Site Based)

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established business seeking an experienced senior bookkeeper to join their busy office function. This is a pivotal, hands-on role working closely with Directors and a small, collaborative team. The business is in a rural location, so a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
The Role
This is a varied and integral stand-alone position within a fast-paced environment, combining core finance responsibilities with payroll and wider office support. You will take ownership of day-to-day accounts processes while helping to keep the office running efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
Processing sales and purchase invoices with accurate coding
Managing customer payments and deposit tracking across financial periods
Running weekly and monthly payment cycles, including BACS
Credit control, including escalation and small claims processes
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Managing bi-weekly payroll
Producing detailed weekly financial reports (Excel-based) with year-on-year comparisons
VAT returns and pension administration
Onboarding new employees, including right-to-work compliance
Managing staff holidays and maintaining records
Handling calls and emails, responding appropriately to customers and enquiries
Supporting supplier engagement, quotes, and ordering
Petty cash management
Providing general administrative support to the Directors
Processing customer orders and handling enquiries for a seasonal product line
About You
Proven experience in a similar accounts and payroll role within a commercial environment
Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts Professional and Sage 50 Payroll
Advanced Excel skills with the ability to produce detailed reports
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Confident communicator, comfortable dealing with customers, suppliers and colleagues
Proactive, adaptable, and able to prioritise effectively in a busy setting
A positive, “can-do” attitude and willingness to support across the wider office
