This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a busy and high-performing finance function. The role offers responsibility for managing multiple client payrolls within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The Role
You will take full responsibility for the end-to-end processing of multiple payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and high levels of client service. This role also includes maintaining payroll-related ledgers and supporting wider finance functions.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
Manage and process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls accurately and in line with deadlines
Perform complex calculations including Tax, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory payments
Process payroll changes such as parental leave, attachment of earnings orders, pension opt-outs, AVCs and salary sacrifice schemes
Calculate and resolve overpayments and underpayments, liaising directly with clients
Generate payroll reports and upload BACS payment files via online banking systems
Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries, providing guidance on statutory payments and payroll legislation
Ensure compliance with HMRC RTI requirements, pension legislation and other regulations
Maintain accurate records and ensure audit requirements are met
Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and service delivery
Accounts & Ledger
Set up new client accounts within Sage
Raise sales invoices and match incoming receipts
Reconcile customer accounts and maintain accurate aged debtor balances
Perform monthly bank reconciliations
Assist with VAT returns, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
Support wider finance team activities as required
About You
Essential Experience and Skills
Minimum five years’ experience within a payroll bureau or multi-client environment
Strong working knowledge of Sage Payroll, Sage Accounts, and Microsoft Office
Sound understanding of statutory payments (SMP, SSP), Attachment of Earnings Orders, PAYE, and pension calculations
Strong knowledge of HMRC legislation and payroll compliance requirements
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to strict deadlines
Ability to manage workloads and prioritise effectively
Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach
Desirable
Professional qualification such as CIPP, AAT, or part-qualified ACCA
Knowledge of EYUs and more complex HMRC processes
