Kirklees Council are looking for a dedicated Refuse Collector to join our Trade Waste service team. This role is essential in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of our community services. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team, working to innovate and improve our waste collection processes.
Day-to-day of the role:
Collect refuse from bins or bags presented at designated collection points or from households that require assisted support. Ensure bins are returned without causing obstruction.
Handle a variety of materials including refuse, recycling, clinical bagged waste, bulky items, and assist with skip collections.
Operate lifting equipment safely and in accordance with risk assessments and operator’s guidance.
Comply with all procedures and service expectations, maintaining high standards of work.
Assist in providing information to the public on refuse collection arrangements and participate in stickering bins as required.
Complete timesheets, accident books, or other records in a timely manner.
Provide guidance and assist with the training of less experienced staff on operational matters.
Undertake additional cleaning duties, support waste sort arrangements, and assist in the delivery of new bins as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Ability to perform physical tasks and handle heavy equipment.
Experience in waste collection or a similar role is preferred but not essential.
Good communication skills to interact effectively with the public and team members.
Commitment to early starts and flexible work hours to meet service delivery needs.
Ability to follow safety procedures and use equipment appropriately.
