Reed Public Sector is recruiting for a Private Rented Sector Enabling Officer to join a Local Authority in Berkshire on an initial 3-month contract.

Pay: £18.17 - £20.16 per hour

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional to contribute to homelessness prevention by helping households secure sustainable accommodation within the private rented sector.

The Role

You will manage a caseload of households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, supporting them to access suitable accommodation in the private rented sector. Working closely with landlords, letting agents, accommodation providers, and internal housing teams, you will help deliver positive housing outcomes while reducing the use of temporary accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of households requiring assistance into private rented accommodation.
• Support residents in securing and sustaining suitable private rented tenancies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with landlords, letting agents, and accommodation providers.
• Negotiate with landlords and housing providers to secure accommodation opportunities.
• Assist in delivering homelessness prevention initiatives and temporary accommodation reduction strategies.
• Ensure accurate case management records are maintained.
• Contribute to housing policy, strategy, and service development where required.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the local private rented sector and housing legislation.

About You

• Experience working with private sector landlords, letting agents, or housing providers.
• Experience delivering housing or homelessness services within a local authority, housing association, charity, government agency, or related organisation.
• Strong case management and customer service skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
• The ability to work independently while managing a varied and demanding caseload.
• Knowledge of homelessness prevention and private rented sector practices would be advantageous.
