Sheffield City Council are currently seeking four experienced Cleansing Operatives to join their team on a temporary basis for the next two months. This is an excellent opportunity for reliable and hardworking cleaning professionals to support the delivery of vital cleaning services across a range of council buildings and facilities throughout Sheffield.

Day-to-day of the role:

As a Cleansing Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation across a variety of council sites. You will work either independently or as part of a team to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for staff and members of the public.

  • 37 hours per week
  • Working 5 days out of 7, based on service requirements
  • Working hours are generally between 7:00am and 15:00pm
  • Some operatives may be required to work as part of a rota between 11:30am and 7:00pm
  • Weekly schedules will normally be provided one week in advance
  • Flexibility is essential to cover short-notice absences when required
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across allocated sites
  • Carry out general cleaning duties including:
    • Sweeping, mopping, washing and scrubbing
    • Vacuuming and dusting
    • Sanitising and polishing
    • Carpet shampooing and specialist cleaning where required
  • Clean internal and external glazing as required
  • Use cleaning equipment, machinery and materials safely and effectively
  • Clear tables and remove waste from dining areas, public spaces and meeting rooms
  • Load and unload dishwashers and undertake light pot washing duties
  • Report maintenance issues, damage, defects, and cleaning standard concerns
  • Assist with statutory compliance tasks, including water temperature monitoring and outlet purging
  • Support porterage activities and the movement of items within designated sites
  • Set up rooms and public spaces to predetermined layouts for meetings, events and ceremonies
  • Utilise council ICT systems and mobile devices as required
  • Liaise professionally with site staff, supervisors and managers

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous professional cleaning experience
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, products and equipment
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within cleaning environments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible approach to working patterns and locations
  • Strong reliability, punctuality and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and customer-focused approach
