Join the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, where you will play a pivotal role in the Strategic Transformation Programme focused on the new build, refurbishment, and decarbonisation of fire stations. This role is essential for enhancing the operational capacities of the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) while aligning with GMCA’s goals for modernisation, efficiency, and sustainability.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide commercial leadership and expert cost management across a portfolio of strategically important capital projects.
- Ensure the effective stewardship of public funds and delivery of value for money throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead on commercial and cost management matters, supporting Project Managers, senior leadership, and key stakeholders through all RIBA stages of project development and delivery.
- Challenge and assure externally prepared cost information, oversee project valuations and financial reporting requirements, and manage commercial and financial risks.
- Manage relationships with consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders, providing expert advice on procurement, cost control, contract administration, and risk management.
- Engage regularly with project teams, attend site and progress meetings, and prepare reports and recommendations to support informed decision-making and programme governance.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Chartered Quantity Surveyor with full RICS membership – MRICS (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of experience delivering commercial and cost management services across construction and property projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead commercial management activities through the full project lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of the JCT/NEC suite of contracts.
- Experience managing consultants, professional teams, and contractor commercial performance.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently on projects with multiple stakeholders from different teams and/or organisations.
