Temporary Payroll Manager

📍 Location: Digbeth (with the option to be based at Longbridge alongside the HR team)
Hours: Full-time or part-time considered
💷 Rate: Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience and availability
📅 Contract: Temporary 

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to support our payroll team during the implementation of a new payroll system. This is a key role focused on coordinating activities, managing timelines, and ensuring a smooth transition throughout the implementation process.

The successful candidate will work closely with payroll, HR, and key stakeholders to oversee actions, resolve issues, and help drive the project to a successful conclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the payroll team with the implementation of a new payroll system.
  • Coordinate project actions and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Act as a key point of contact between payroll, HR, and system providers.
  • Monitor progress and escalate risks or issues where required.
  • Support testing, data validation, and process improvements.
  • Ensure payroll processes continue to operate effectively throughout the implementation.
  • Provide guidance and support to the wider payroll team.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience managing payroll operations.
  • Experience within public sector and working with West Midlands Pension Fund
  • Previous involvement in payroll system implementations or upgrades.
  • Strong project coordination and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience working closely with HR teams.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and best practice.
  • Experience with system testing, data migration, or change management.
