Our Client, a Merseyside council is seeking a Team Manager to join their Youth Justice Team.

Responsibilities of this role:

  • Lead, manage and supervise a multidisciplinary Youth Justice Team, ensuring high-quality service delivery to children, young people, and their families.
  • Provide effective line management, including supervision, appraisal, performance management, and professional development of social workers and youth justice practitioners.
  • Oversee the assessment, planning, and review of interventions for children and young people involved in the youth justice system, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, frameworks, and standards (e.g. Child First, AssetPlus, safeguarding duties).
  • Ensure all practice promotes safeguarding, risk management, and the welfare of children, including those at risk of exploitation, reoffending, or harm to others.
  • Drive a child-centred, trauma-informed, and restorative approach to youth justice practice, promoting desistance and positive outcomes.
  • Monitor and manage complex, high-risk, and high-profile cases, providing guidance and oversight to ensure defensible decision-making.
  • Ensure statutory responsibilities are met, including court reports, bail assessments, and custodial/community sentence management.
  • Work collaboratively with key partners including police, courts, education, health, probation services, and voluntary organisations to deliver integrated services.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and continuous improvement within the Youth Justice Service.
  • Manage team resources effectively, including workload allocation, staffing, and budget oversight where applicable.
  • Maintain high standards of record keeping and ensure compliance with data protection and information governance requirements.
  • Lead on audits, quality assurance, and performance reporting, driving improvements in practice and outcomes.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery and team management.
  • Respond to inspections (e.g. HMIP) and implement action plans to address findings and improve service quality.
  • Represent the service at multi-agency forums, panels, and strategic meetings.

Requirements of this role:

  • Must be a Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England
  • Must have minimum of 3 years post qualifying social work experience
