  • Includes an assessment

  • Qualifies staff to respond to colleagues in mental health distress

One in seven people experience mental health problems in the workplace – and many issues go unrecognised due to the stigma that still surrounds mental health at work. Qualified mental health first aiders equip your business to build a positive culture around mental wellbeing, and provide support to employees in need.

Make your workplace a safe place to talk about mental health.

This course will provide learners with an understanding of what mental health means, the ability to recognise the causes and symptoms of common workplace mental health illnesses, and the tools to improve mental health wellbeing.

Learners are invited to consider the stigma surrounding mental health in the workplace, consider why employees may not disclose mental health issues, and how staff can support staff in a professional empathetic way.

Incorporating a minimum of 16 hours spread over two days, this course will provide practical information on:

  • Understanding mental health at work

  • Stress in the workplace

  • How to support staff suffering from:
    o Depression
o Suicide (including CPR for suicide risk assessment)
    o Anxiety
    o PTSD
    o OCD
    o Eating disorders
    o Bipolar
    o Self-harm
    o Psychosis

  • Legal and regulatory implications including:
    o HSE manager standards
    o Mental health legislation
o Making reasonable adjustments at work
o Mental health core and enhanced standards

The course will also equip your employees with:

  • Active listening skills

  • Action plans for mental health support, including supporting during absence and return to work

  • Lived experience videos

  • Tips for self-care

  • An action plan for a mentally healthier workplace

To undertake this course, the learners must be able to participate fully in the classroom. Learners need to be aware that this subject contains material that could be triggering. Also, once staff have qualified, they will have to respond to colleagues who have mental health distress.

This in-house course can be delivered to groups of eight or more.
