Technical Manager

Join our team as a Technical Manager and lead continuous improvement initiatives across a dynamic food manufacturing site. This role is essential for upholding the highest standards of food safety, quality, and compliance with retailer standards, directly reporting to the Managing Director.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Lead and develop a technical team including Quality Managers, Quality Leads, Quality Technicians, a Technical Assistant, and a Technical Compliance Manager.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance & Standards:
    • Ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, and legal requirements.
    • Maintain and improve site standards to meet BRCGS and major retailer codes of practice.
    • Oversee audits (internal, external, and customer) and drive corrective actions.
  • Retailer Engagement:
    • Act as the primary technical contact for retailer customers.
    • Manage specifications, complaints, and technical queries promptly and professionally.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify and implement improvements in processes, systems, and standards.
    • Drive initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure technical standards are embedded in daily operations.
    • Support NPD and product launches from a technical perspective.
  • General Duties:
    • Ensure all legislative requirements are adhered to and that company procedures and standards are maintained.
    • Complete other duties as deemed necessary by the employer.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a technical leadership role within food manufacturing.
  • Level 2 HACCP, Level 2 Food Hygiene.
  • Internal auditor experience.
  • Good working knowledge of BRC and food safety.
  • Strong knowledge of retailer requirements and codes of practice.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to work on the factory floor.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels.
  • Experience managing audits and driving compliance improvements.
  • Excellent understanding of food safety.
  • Problem-solving ability and root cause analysis/investigation skills.
