Research Assistant

Location: Between Ely and Newmarket
Contract: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract (with potential to become permanent and/or full-time, subject to future funding)
Hours: Part-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join a small and innovative start-up based between Ely and Newmarket. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in Plant Biology and Plant Tissue Culture who is looking for a part-time position within a dynamic research environment.

Working as part of a close-knit team, you will support a range of research and development activities, contributing to the advancement of plant science projects and helping to drive the company's growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with plant biology research projects and laboratory-based experiments.
• Perform plant tissue culture techniques, including propagation and maintenance of cultures.
• Prepare, monitor, and record experimental data accurately.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, materials, and workspaces in accordance with established procedures.
• Support research activities through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Contribute to the day-to-day operation of the laboratory and wider research team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A background in Plant Biology, Plant Science, or a related discipline.
• Practical experience in plant tissue culture techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
• The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
• Good record-keeping and data management skills.

Additional Requirements

Due to the rural location of the business, public transport is not a viable option. Applicants must therefore have:

• A full UK driving licence.
• Access to their own vehicle.
