We are recruiting for a Lost Property Assistant to join Transport for London. In this role, you will be responsible for safely storing recovered lost items from TfL’s transport network, categorising them and recording data onto the lost property database. Taking payments and reconciling cash for items returned to customers.
You’ll be part of a friendly team, who work hard to reunite customers with their lost property and create a positive impact throughout the process.
You’ll role model our Values and use available information and data to understand what’s important to our customers and your teams. You’ll use this knowledge to help motivate colleagues and help to improve processes in a planned way.
Due to the demands of the role in a warehouse/office environment, you need to be physically fit.

Hourly Rate: £15.56 per hour
Location: West Ham, London (fully officed based)
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00-15:45
Contract Duration: 6 months
Key Accountabilities:
The role is varied and interesting. The main activities include:
Adhere to all TfL policies and guidelines.
Provide accurate and relevant information promptly and completely and in an impartial and positive manner.
Prioritising workload, to meet departmental KPI’s.
Ensure all activities related to fraud prevention are undertaken.
Embrace, promote and have a positive response and attitude to significant change.
Co-ordinate with management in the promotion and maintenance of health and safety measures within the building
Accurately record all data on the bespoke Information System (Not lost) in accordance with office procedures.
To perform duties within the customer contact and property area, in a professional manner and in accordance with TfL procedures
Answer queries from customers and identify any property which might belong to the customer. Establish ownership by asking probing questions to ensure the property is returned to its rightful owner.
Process various payment transactions
Seek to trace enquiries and inform customers of the outcome using standard computer-generated letters or composing free format letters as appropriate.
Return official documents to the issuing authority.
Process incoming and outgoing mail.
Counter duties – to facilitate customer booked appointments to enable customers to collect their lost property.
Communicate information to colleagues, coordinators, and managers, as necessary, and appropriate.
