Wakefield Council is seeking a Commercial Lead to join our dynamic Commercial Team. This role is crucial in driving the Council's ambitions and making a significant impact on our communities. As the strategic lead, you will develop and embed best practices in commercial policy, including procurement, and lead on commercial training, governance, and data management. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape and enhance the commercial operations within the Council, ensuring compliance, innovation, transparency, and value for money.
Day-to-day of the role:
Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of commercial policies, procedures, processes, documentation, and strategies.
Design and deliver targeted training and guidance programmes for officers and elected members.
Drive commercial excellence with both internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee the development and use of commercial data and analytics within the Commercial Team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Expert knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework relevant to public sector procurement.
Proven experience in coaching, developing, and leading others.
Experience working in a commercial function delivering complex procurements and/or developing complex commercial strategies/policies/documentation.
An innovative and forward-thinking individual with a ‘can-do’ attitude towards change and continuous improvement.
Excellent professional written and oral communication skills.
