Kirklees Council are looking for four Refuse Collectors to join our team on a temporary basis for the next 1 - 2 months. This role is crucial in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of our community services. We are looking for individuals who are innovative and creative in their approach to work, with a focus on delivering excellent service to our communities.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Collect waste from households and businesses, ensuring safe handling and compliance with service standards.
  • Operate within a team of 2 Loaders and 1 Driver to complete a set amount of work daily.
  • Handle a variety of materials including refuse, recycling, clinical bagged waste, bulky items, and assist with skip collections.
  • Use equipment appropriately and follow procedures for collection, loading, lifting, and disposal of waste.
  • Report waste concerns such as non-presented bins and overflowing bins as required.
  • Assist in recording information using technologies such as in-cab systems.
  • Maintain a positive image in interactions with the public and stakeholders.
  • Support service delivery by working collaboratively with individuals and teams.
  • Undertake other cleaning duties as required, such as snow clearing, gritting, and support for clean-up projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to work safely and follow detailed instructions.
  • Experience in waste collection or a similar role is preferred but not essential.
  • Good physical fitness to handle manual tasks and lifting.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with the public and team members.
  • Commitment to a work pattern that reflects service delivery needs.
