As a member of the Senior Management Team, the head of finance and governance will provide clear leadership and direction to managers within the finance and governance functions.  The role is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of strategy and policy, and for ensuring the effective delivery of key elements of the organisation’s corporate and delivery plans.  The position requires a balanced and strategic approach, supporting strong governance, sound financial management and organisational accountability.  Key responsibilities include;

Essential Criteria;

  • Qualified Accountant: Fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) with 5+ years post-qualification experience and professional body membership.
  • Financial Management: 3+ years managing large (£10m+) complex budgets, including forecasting and reporting.
  • Public Sector Experience: 2+ years in organisations delivering public services (directly or via partners).
  • Senior Leadership: 1+ year at senior management level, advising Boards on governance, finance, and risk.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Driving Requirement: UK driving licence and access to a car (or reasonable alternative due to disability).

Desirable Criteria;

  • Experience delivering outcomes within a public sector governance environment.
  • Oversight of governance processes (e.g. complaints, FOI, SARs).
