Job Title: Finance Manager
Location: Northwest
Type: Permanent
Salary: £50-£55,000

The Opportunity
An established and growing business within the housebuilding and construction sector is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead its finance function and provide commercial and strategic support to the senior leadership team.

Reporting into an experienced Financial Controller, this is a key appointment for the business, requiring a commercially minded finance professional with proven experience operating within a construction/housebuilding environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function while ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and full compliance with industry-specific regulations. They’ll also get the opportunity to hire new team members as the business continues to grow.

A strong background in housebuilding or construction is essential, as is significant hands-on experience managing Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the daily running of the finance department, ensuring accurate and timely financial processing across the business.
  • Build and develop a robust transactional finance team capable of supporting a growing construction environment.
  • Ensure financial governance, compliance and internal controls are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Take ownership of CIS processes, reporting and compliance obligations, ensuring monthly CIS deductions and submissions are prepared accurately and on time
  • Act as the primary point of contact for CIS-related matters and HMRC queries.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital and ledger performance to support the financial health of the business.
  • Review existing finance processes and implement improvements to drive efficiency and scalability.
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Coordinate external audit requirements and support the production of statutory accounts.

About You

  • Proven experience as an Accountant/Finance Manager within the construction, housebuilding or related sector.
  • Strong transactional accounting, forecasting and cash flow management experience.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using accounting software.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proactive and can-do attitude, someone who wants to take accountability and ownership of a growing function

CIS Experience is essential: Successful applicants must have substantial, hands-on experience managing CIS compliance within a construction or housebuilding environment and be able to demonstrate practical, end-to-end ownership of CIS processes and compliance obligations.

If you are an experienced Finance Manager with a strong construction or housebuilding background and proven end-to-end CIS expertise, this is an excellent opportunity to join a successful business and play a key role in its continued growth and financial performance.
