Are you passionate about helping people reduce their energy costs and improve the comfort of their homes? We are looking for an experienced and customer-focused Energy Support Officer to join a dedicated Housing and Communities team supporting residents across the Reading area.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference within the community by providing practical energy efficiency advice, supporting vulnerable households, and helping residents access available assistance and funding schemes.

The Role

As an Energy Support Officer, you will work directly with residents to help them heat their homes more efficiently, reduce energy bills, and access the support available to tackle fuel poverty. You will undertake home energy assessments, provide advice on energy efficiency measures, support residents experiencing damp and mould issues, and liaise with energy suppliers and partner agencies where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out energy efficiency assessments and identify appropriate support measures.
  • Provide practical energy-saving advice to residents.
  • Support households affected by fuel poverty and rising energy costs.
  • Assist residents with damp and mould concerns, providing advice and referrals where required.
  • Liaise with energy suppliers and partner organisations on behalf of residents.
  • Maintain accurate case records and performance data.
  • Promote energy support services through community engagement events and outreach activity.
  • Respond to customer enquiries professionally and within agreed timescales.

About You

We're looking for someone who can combine excellent customer service skills with an understanding of energy efficiency and community support services.

Essential Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
  • Experience providing advice and support to members of the public.
  • Knowledge of domestic energy efficiency, fuel poverty issues, and relevant legislation or funding schemes.
  • Experience managing multiple cases and maintaining accurate records.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Full UK driving licence with daily access to a vehicle.

What's on Offer?

  • Hybrid working arrangement.
  • Competitive hourly rate of £17.47 PAYE.
  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact on local communities.
  • Long-term temporary assignment running until May 2027.
  • Full-time hours.
