About the Role
We are recruiting Children’s Support Workers to join services across Southampton. These roles are essential in supporting children and young people with a range of needs, including emotional and behavioural challenges, to live safely and thrive.
You will play a key role in providing a safe, nurturing and structured environment where young people feel supported, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. The role involves a mixture of emotional support, practical care and structured interventions within residential or at times community-based settings.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality, person-centred and trauma informed support to children and young people.
• Promote a safe, stable and nurturing environment within residential or supported settings.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people to support emotional wellbeing.
• Assist with daily routines, including education, activities, appointments and life skills.
• Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques.
• Support the development of independence, confidence and social skills.
• Maintain accurate records, incident reports and safeguarding documentation.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers and other professionals.
• Uphold safeguarding, health & safety and confidentiality standards at all times.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
• Ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Calm, resilient and adaptable approach when managing challenging situations.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and qualifications such as NVQs.
Desirable:
• Previous experience within children’s residential care or support services.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, SEMH, or behavioural support approaches.
• Relevant qualification (e.g. Level 3 Children & Young People, Health & Social Care).
• Experience working with children with additional needs, including mental health or SEND.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Who This Role Suits
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people. Whether you are experienced or looking to build a career in care and support, this role offers flexibility, variety and the chance to have a meaningful impact. The right person will be resilient and able to handle challenging behaviours confidently.
