Café Supervisor

  • Location: Near Hailsham
  • Salary: £26,890 per annum (FTE), pro rata to 30 hours per week
  • Job Type: Permanent, Part-time (30 hours per week)

We are looking for a proactive Café Supervisor to manage our on-site café's day-to-day operations and support wider site operations, particularly during weekends. This role includes leading the café team, ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, and presentation, and acting as Duty Manager during weekends.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Catering Operations & Food Service:

    • Develop and maintain a high-quality menu tailored to a family audience.
    • Oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth service and effective resource management.
    • Lead food preparation, maintaining quality, consistency, and food safety standards.
    • Support catering for events, including private hire and corporate functions.
    • Maintain attractive counter displays and ensure a positive customer journey.
    • Manage financial aspects including operating tills, monitoring costs, pricing, and profitability.
  • Stock Management:

    • Efficiently source and manage stock from approved suppliers.
    • Monitor stock levels, wastage, and rotation, and maintain accurate records.
    • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Customer Service:

    • Deliver a professional customer experience, handle feedback positively, and encourage repeat visits.
    • Create a welcoming environment aligned with the wider visitor experience.
  • Team Leadership:

    • Train and support team members in café operations and service standards.
    • Lead by example to foster a positive team culture and promote a safe, collaborative working environment.
  • Duty Manager Responsibilities (Weekends):

    • Act as the senior on-site contact, overseeing safe opening and closing of the site.
    • Monitor visitor flow and respond to operational needs, ensuring visitor safety and satisfaction.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within a café or restaurant environment.
  • Strong understanding of food preparation and service.
  • Confident in handling transactions and using till systems.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Desirable: Catering or hospitality qualifications, Food Safety Level 3, experience in managing a catering operation or stock control.
