My client a fast - growing UK-based professional services and advisory firm have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join their growing team.

Reporting into the Finance Director you will provide day-to-day transactional and analytical support to the finance team, with a particular focus on month-end close activities, expense review and control, audit evidence preparation, and accounts receivable management.

Responsibilities:

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Support month-end close activities, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting packs, and intercompany transfer pricing recharges.

Expense Management

  • Review and reconcile employee expenses and corporate cards, ensuring policy compliance, accurate coding, VAT treatment, and resolution of exceptions identified through AI-assisted reviews.

Audit & Controls

  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation, respond to auditor requests, and assist in maintaining financial controls and process documentation.

Accounts Receivable

  • Support credit control, cash allocation, debtor management, billing query resolution, and cash flow forecasting.

General

  • Leverage AI-enabled finance tools to improve efficiency and accuracy, contribute to process improvements, and provide ad hoc support and analysis for senior finance leadership.

About you:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant qualification/ work experience)
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role, ideally including exposure to month-end close, expense processing, or AR/credit control
  • Comfortable and proactive in using AI tools and modern finance systems to support day-to-day work (e.g. automating reconciliations, using AI for data review/anomaly detection, drafting reporting commentary)
  • Right to work in the UK (this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship)
  • Strong Excel skills and general comfort learning new finance/ERP and EPM systems
  • High attention to detail and a methodical approach to reconciliations and documentation
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders (including senior finance team members) and external auditors.
