An opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join a small, but busy finance team, with a strong focus on Sales Ledger and supporting Purchase Ledger activities. This is a varied role requiring excellent attention to detail, organisation, and the ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Ledger (Primary Focus)
Process a high volume of daily sales invoices (circa 60 per day) using established templates
Create and maintain accurate sales orders within Sage, ensuring all data is complete and reconciled
Download and process daily sales reports from internal systems
Maintain a master tracking spreadsheet in Excel, ensuring correct project codes and values
Issue invoices promptly via Outlook
Respond to customer invoice queries and resolve account discrepancies
Process customer payments, including telephone card transactions
Produce and distribute monthly customer statements
Issue copy invoices upon request
Purchase Ledger (Supporting Duties)
Manage the accounts inbox, ensuring all queries and documentation are actioned efficiently
Download and process supplier invoices and statements
Accurately input invoices into Sage, applying correct nominal and tax codes
Match invoices against purchase orders and delivery notes
Obtain appropriate approvals for subcontractor invoices
Reconcile supplier statements and investigate any discrepancies
Maintain organised digital and hard copy filing systems
General / Administrative Duties
Act as a first point of contact for visitors and incoming calls
Order and manage office stationery, ensuring stock levels are maintained
Skills and Experience Required
Previous experience in a similar Accounts Assistant role, with strong Sales Ledger exposure
Working knowledge of Sage and Microsoft Excel
Experience processing high volumes of invoices
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Confident communication skills for handling customer and supplier queries
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
