Join the Commercial Services Team at Wakefield Council, where you will play a pivotal role in supporting the local authority to enhance the district, making it a thriving place for residents, businesses, and visitors. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Procurement Category Manager to lead procurement activities within a category management framework.
Day-to-day of the role:
Lead a small team of procurement professionals, ensuring effective management of various categories of spend, particularly in ICT, HR, and Financial Services.
Provide professional, customer-focused procurement services for Goods, Services, and Works, ensuring compliance with category management principles.
Offer strategic advice and manage end-to-end procurement activities, influencing procurement solutions that deliver value for money and focused outcomes.
Develop a category-led approach to procurement, influencing spend, understanding business needs, and identifying innovative sourcing opportunities.
Ensure your team has a full understanding and control of all third-party spend associated with the categories.
Maintain a planned, proactive approach to enhance procurement activity within the category of spend across the Council.
Provide procurement guidance and deliver training to Council Officers.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience as a procurement professional with strong skills in stakeholder and contract management.
Awareness of the legislative and regulatory framework relevant to public sector procurement, including UK Regulations and complex procurement exercises.
Demonstrable organisational and planning skills, with the ability to impart knowledge to colleagues at all levels.
Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively managing and leading a team.
