Our client, a well-established law firm with a national reputation for excellence, is seeking a Paralegal to join their Court of Protection department in Bristol. This role offers the opportunity to work under the supervision of the Legal Director and contribute significantly to the department's operations.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
Carry out and be responsible for the day-to-day work of court of protection files under the supervision of the Legal Director.
Set up and make payments, standing orders, pay invoices, and reimburse costs on deputyship and trusts matters.
Liaise with third parties such as utility providers, landlords, local authorities, DWP, and HMRC on the client’s behalf and keep accurate records of all communications.
Audit client bank accounts as directed.
Scan incoming post to the relevant file and update client records accordingly.
Assist in monitoring and managing the Court of Protection diary of key dates.
Type file and attendance notes when required.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of client’s affairs as directed by senior members of the Department.
Assist senior members of the Department with substantial case files and exhibit flexibility, particularly in times of holiday/sickness.
Undertake paralegal training relevant to Court of Protection grade D fee earners and keep this up to date.
Apply proper professional standards (SRA and OPG Deputy Standards) and observe best practices to prevent claims against the firm for professional negligence.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Relevant experience as a Paralegal within Clinical Negligence.
Relevant Law Degree.
Basic understanding of personal injury law and practice and/or private client law and practice and/or Court of Protection law and practice.
Ability to maintain and build upon existing client relationships through positive business development.
Self-organised, proactive, and able to solve problems independently.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain client confidentiality.
Adaptable to the needs of the business as changes occur.
Competent in the effective use of Case Management and other IT systems.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
