Information Governance Officer (Interim)

📍 Norwich (Hybrid)
⏳ Initial 8-week contract with potential extension

We are currently seeking an experienced Information Governance Officer to provide immediate support on an interim basis, initially for 8 weeks, with the potential to extend.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established public sector environment, supporting a busy Information Governance function across a wide range of data protection, compliance, and statutory request activities.

The Role

You will play a key role in supporting the organisation’s compliance with data protection and information governance legislation, ensuring effective handling of statutory requests and data-related activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and responding to Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests
  • Handling Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and other GDPR-related individual rights requests
  • Investigating and managing data breaches and information security incidents
  • Supporting the organisation in maintaining compliance with:
    • UK GDPR
    • Data Protection Act 2018
    • Freedom of Information Act 2000
    • Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • Providing guidance to internal stakeholders on data protection and privacy matters
  • Supporting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and risk mitigation activities
  • Assisting with records management, information audits, and data governance processes
  • Working collaboratively across teams to promote best practice in information governance

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in processing FOI, EIR and DSAR requests
  • Hands-on experience managing data incidents and breaches
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • UK GDPR
    • Data Protection Act 2018
    • Freedom of Information Act 2000
    • Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • Awareness of the role and guidance of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulations clearly
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience working within a public sector or similarly regulated environment (desirable)
