We are seeking an experienced Highways Engineer (Planning) to join our Development Management service. This role is crucial in supporting the delivery of major residential, retail, and commercial developments across the borough. You will provide specialist highways advice on a wide range of planning applications, ensuring developments are safe, sustainable, and compliant with policy.
Day-to-day of the role:
Provide highways and transportation advice on planning applications, including major residential and commercial schemes.
Assess and negotiate Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Highway and junction designs.
Advise on access arrangements, parking and servicing, active travel, and highway safety.
Support and attend pre-application meetings with developers and agents.
Contribute to planning conditions, Section 106 agreements, and Highway Agreements.
Work collaboratively with planning officers and multidisciplinary teams.
Represent the council at meetings, appeals, and inquiries where required.
Ensure developments align with local transport plans and national policy.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in highways development management (local authority or consultancy).
Strong track record working on large-scale residential, retail, or mixed-use developments.
In-depth knowledge of UK planning and highways legislation, policy, and guidance.
Ability to interpret technical reports and translate them into clear, professional advice.
Experience engaging with developers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and meet statutory deadlines.
