English and Functional Skills Lecturer – Greater Manchester

Location: Greater Manchester

Salary: Competitive hourly and annual rates (dependent on experience and contract type)

About This Role

As an English & Functional Skills lecturer, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons to learners across a range of programmes and abilities. You will help students develop essential reading, writing, speaking, and communication skills while preparing them to achieve recognised qualifications that support progression into further study, apprenticeships and employment

Working closely with curriculum teams, you will create and positive and supportive learning environment, monitor learning progress and adapt your teaching to meet individual learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging English and Functional Skills lessons
• Teach GCSE English Language and/or Functional skills English, depending on curriculum requirements
• Assess learner progress and provide timely, constructive feedback
• Differentiate teaching methods to support learners with varying abilities and learning needs
• Monitor attendance, achievement and learner wellbeing
• Maintain accurate records and complete required administrative duties
• Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to continuously improve teaching, learning and assessment

Essential requirements

• Degree in English or a related subject
• A recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
• Experience teaching English, Functional skills or GCSE English (desirable depending on the role)
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• A passion for supporting learners to achieve their potential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable

• Experience teaching within Further Education or Adult Learning
• Knowledge of GCSE English and Functional Skills curricula
• Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs
• Strong classroom management and assessment skills
