Breakdown Centre Controller

Coventry (Head Office – Office-Based)
Full-time – 37.5 hours per week (flexibility required)

The Opportunity

We are working with a leading organisation in the commercial vehicle sector, seeking an experienced Breakdown Centre Controller to join their central operations team.

This is a fast-paced, critical role responsible for managing vehicle breakdowns, defects and tyre incidents efficiently, ensuring the best possible outcome in terms of cost, service levels and quality.

You will play a key part in keeping customers operational by making the right decisions first time, coordinating resources and managing supplier performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage breakdowns, defects and tyre-related incidents across a national network
  • Assess incidents and determine the most appropriate and cost-effective solution
  • Allocate work to approved service providers, including workshops, dealers and mobile technicians
  • Monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to service level agreements
  • Control and authorise repair costs in line with budgets and contractual agreements
  • Manage and challenge supplier invoices, raising purchase orders where required
  • Track and control breakdown and tyre spend
  • Review vehicle history systems to support informed decision-making
  • Ensure timely communication between all stakeholders, including customers and suppliers
  • Identify underperforming suppliers and recommend improvements
  • Support recharge processes where applicable

About You

  • Previous experience in a breakdown control, fleet maintenance, or workshop environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of LGV/HGV maintenance and standards [Breakdown...er 2026_FR | Word]
  • Experience working in a high-pressure, fast-paced control room or operations environment [Breakdown...er 2026_FR | Word]
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. roadside safety standards such as PAS43) [Breakdown...er 2026_FR | Word]
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise at all levels
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities

  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with a strong work ethic
