Part-Time Caretaker / School Support Assistant (Temporary)

Location: Hampstead, North West London (NW3)
Contract: Temporary (remainder of half term), with potential for additional hours
Reporting to: Bursar / Senior Leadership Team

Working Hours

  • Monday: 10:00am – 4:00pm
  • Tuesday: 10:00am – 4:00pm
  • Wednesday: 7:30am – 12:30pm
  • Thursday: 7:30am – 12:30pm
  • Friday: 7:30am – 12:30pm
  • Saturday: 8:00am – 12:00pm (optional – may involve opening the site briefly)

Overtime may be available during school events.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a reliable, proactive, and friendly Caretaker / School Support Assistant to join a welcoming independent school in Hampstead on a temporary basis.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the day-to-day running of the school site, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for pupils and staff. The role also includes assisting with school activities and supporting transport arrangements for pupils.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily caretaking duties to maintain a safe and clean school environment
  • Perform general maintenance and basic DIY tasks (minor repairs and upkeep)
  • Keep indoor and outdoor areas tidy and well-presented
  • Assist with opening and securing the school site
  • Support school events and activities (with potential overtime)
  • Transport pupils to and from an off-site facility alongside a teacher
    • Typically 1–2 trips per day
    • Use of a school-provided automatic electric vehicle

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, or handyman roles
  • Good practical DIY skills
  • Basic IT literacy
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Reliable, approachable, and able to work independently

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a school or similar setting
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices

Safeguarding

This role is subject to safeguarding requirements. The successful candidate will be required to complete safeguarding checks and training prior to starting.
