1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Plymouth. This role involves supporting a child with additional needs, providing consistent one-on-one assistance to help them access learning, build confidence, and thrive in a mainstream classroom environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a pupil with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, or additional learning needs).
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the child’s individual needs and support their educational and personal development.
  • Assist with emotional regulation and implement positive behaviour strategies.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
  • Encourage independence, engagement, and social interaction to foster a supportive learning environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A patient, nurturing, and empathetic approach to supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Experience supporting children with SEN, whether in a school, care, or similar background.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Calm, resilient, and adaptable personality, capable of handling the dynamic needs of the classroom.
  • A genuine passion for making a significant impact in the lives of children with additional needs.
