Join the Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council in a pivotal role as Deputy Town Clerk (Designate). This position offers a structured development pathway, preparing you to succeed the current Town Clerk upon their retirement in May 2027. You will play a crucial role in strategic leadership, administration, legal compliance, and day-to-day operations.
Day-to-day of the role:
Support the Town Clerk in strategic planning and implementation of Council decisions, policies, and projects.
Assist in the preparation of agendas, reports, and minutes for Council and Committee meetings.
Ensure the Council operates within statutory requirements and follows proper procedures.
Deputise for the Town Clerk, assisting in governance, compliance, and strategic and operational delivery.
Manage day-to-day administration of council services, facilities, and assets.
Act as a point of contact for residents, businesses, and partners, supporting community projects and events.
Assist in annual budget preparation and management, and support funding applications and bid writing.
Provide leadership and continuity in the absence of the Town Clerk, engaging in a mentoring programme as Town Clerk (Designate).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Good standard of education with knowledge of local government and understanding of governance and meeting procedures.
Experience in local government and project management, including preparing agendas, minutes, and formal documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, organisational and time management skills.
Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, Email systems), and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Professional, reliable, and discreet, with a strong attention to detail and flexibility to attend evening meetings.
