The Opportunity

We’re recruiting for an experienced School Meals Business Manager to support and drive the success of a large-scale school catering service.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with catering operations, contract catering, or public sector catering experience who wants to step into a role with real impact—ensuring high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective meal provision for children across schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the business operations of the school meals service
  • Manage and support central office staff and wider catering teams
  • Maintain strong relationships with schools, stakeholders, and suppliers
  • Oversee performance, reporting, and service delivery standards
  • Support growth by increasing service uptake across schools
  • Ensure full compliance with:
    • Food hygiene & safety regulations
    • School Food Standards
    • COSHH & Health & Safety
  • Manage procurement of food, equipment, and services
  • Develop and oversee business plans, risk assessments, and continuity plans
  • Analyse performance and financial data to drive service improvements

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a catering environment (ideally school meals or contract catering)
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, H&S, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience managing teams and operational service delivery
  • Confident working with data, reports, and performance metrics
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results

Qualifications

  • Relevant Catering Qualification (Essential)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Food hygiene & safety
    • School food standards
    • COSHH regulations

Due to the nature of the business, the appointed person will need to have a Standard DBS carried out against them or be on the update service.
