We are working with an evolving SME London based company who are seeking an experienced Underwriter for their Delegated Authority Scheme within the Scheme Business department. This role is crucial for managing and developing a portfolio of delegated authority schemes, driving sustainable and profitable growth. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, relationship-focused individual who excels in collaborating with brokers and internal stakeholders to optimise performance and identify new opportunities.
Day-to-day of the role:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with a designated panel of brokers, actively generating profitable business through regular engagement, meetings, and visits.
Collaborate with brokers, Underwriting, and Operations teams to review scheme performance, identify growth opportunities, and enhance propositions to improve profitability and efficiency.
Monitor and analyse scheme performance, identify underperforming accounts, investigate high loss ratios, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
Produce regular management information (MI), reports, and performance analysis for internal and external stakeholders, contributing to departmental planning and objectives.
Handle daily enquiries and case referrals from brokers, providing underwriting guidance in line with agreed guidelines and account parameters.
Conduct bordereau and MI checks, ensuring accurate and timely account servicing, including premium processing and supporting credit control where required.
Support and mentor junior team members, acting as a technical referral point and contributing to their development.
Lead and participate in binder renewal processes, including preparing renewal proposals and presenting to the Underwriting Committee.
Assist in the review and development of policy wordings, binding authority agreements, underwriting guidelines, and rating structures.
Provide market insights and feedback on competitors, pricing, and market conditions to support product and service development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 5+ years’ underwriting experience within an insurance carrier or established MGA, ideally with delegated authority account management exposure.
Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
Proven negotiation skills with the ability to influence and build partnerships.
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Solid understanding of the UK insurance market, including regulatory frameworks and legislation.
Experience underwriting commercial and/or personal lines risks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desirable:
Degree-level education.
Chartered Insurance Institute qualification or equivalent.
Advanced Excel skills.
