To deliver high-quality teaching and learning for pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6), ensuring all children make strong progress academically, socially, and emotionally. The role includes preparing pupils effectively for Key Stage 2 SATs and transition to secondary school.
The role is to start in September 2026 and will be for the full academic year on a full time basis.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the National Curriculum
- Teach core and foundation subjects across Year 5 and/or Year 6
- Use a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse pupil needs, including SEND and high attainers
- Prepare Year 6 pupils for SATs (reading, SPaG, maths) where applicable
- Maintain high expectations of behaviour and achievement
Assessment and Progress
- Assess, record, and report on pupil progress in line with school policy
- Use data effectively to inform planning and intervention
- Provide timely feedback to pupils to support progress
- Participate in pupil progress meetings
Classroom Management
- Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
- Establish clear routines and behaviour expectations
- Promote pupil wellbeing and resilience
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the planning and development of the KS2 curriculum
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Year 5/6
- Support subject leadership areas (if applicable)
Pastoral and Safeguarding
- Take responsibility for the pastoral care of pupils in your class
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils
- Follow school safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
Communication
- Build positive relationships with parents/carers
- Provide regular updates on pupil progress
- Work effectively with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching in Key Stage 2 (preferably Year 5/6)
- Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum
- Experience of assessment and tracking pupil progress
Desirable
- Experience teaching Year 6 and preparing pupils for SATs
- Subject leadership experience
- Knowledge of intervention strategies
