We are currently working with a fantastic primary school based in Preston. The school are looking to appoint a qualified and experienced teaching assistant to join them on a full-time basis in September. The role will be 8.45-3.15 Monday to Friday and will be for the full Academic year.
To provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 1 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), enabling them to access the curriculum, develop independence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
Pupil Support
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to a named pupil with SEN
- Assist the pupil in accessing learning activities and completing tasks
- Adapt resources and teaching methods to meet individual needs
- Support the development of communication, social skills, and emotional regulation
- Encourage independence while providing appropriate guidance
Learning Support
- Work closely with the class teacher to deliver planned lessons
- Implement strategies from Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or EHCPs
- Support phonics, early literacy, and numeracy learning
- Reinforce learning through structured interventions
Behaviour and Wellbeing
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
- Use agreed behaviour management strategies consistently
- Support the pupil during transitions, playtimes, and unstructured activities
- Help the pupil develop confidence and resilience
Assessment and Feedback
- Monitor and record the pupil’s progress
- Provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO
- Contribute to reviews of EHCPs/IEPs where required
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
- Maintain positive relationships with parents/carers (through teacher guidance)
- Support inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment
Safeguarding
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupil at all times
- Follow school safeguarding policies and procedures
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working with children in an educational setting (preferably KS1)
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech & language needs, SEMH)
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs or equivalent)
Desirable
- Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3)
- Experience working 1:1 with a child
- Knowledge of phonics (e.g. Read Write Inc, Little Wandle)
- Understanding of EHCPs and intervention strategies
