Technician (Biological Sciences & R&D)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician to join an innovative Life Sciences organisation focused on developing cutting-edge biological technologies. Working within a research and development environment, you will support a team involved in biological research, laboratory operations, and experimental activities.

This role would suit a recent graduate or junior technician with a background in Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline who is looking to gain hands-on experience within a fast-paced R&D setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain biological colonies and support routine husbandry activities.
  • Assist with experimental setup, monitoring, and data collection activities.
  • Accurately record observations, results, and laboratory activities.
  • Prepare laboratory materials, stock solutions, and equipment required for research activities.
  • Support the smooth day-to-day running of laboratory operations.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and laboratory compliance.
  • Assist with maintaining SOPs, risk assessments, and associated documentation.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A qualification in a scientific discipline such as Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, Biomedical Science, Microbiology, or a related subject.
  • Previous experience within a biological sciences laboratory or research environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Experience collecting, recording, and analysing scientific data.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • A flexible and proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience working with live organisms or biological husbandry systems.
  • Experience supporting laboratory-based research and development projects.
  • Knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures, SOPs, COSHH, or risk assessments.
