The Role
We are seeking a skilled HGV Technician to join a dynamic team. This role is crucial for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) by performing routine maintenance, diagnosing mechanical issues, and making necessary repairs. You will ensure that all vehicles comply with safety and regulatory standards, contributing to the reliability and safety of our fleet.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance tasks and diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on HGVs. Replace or repair faulty components, including engines, transmissions, and braking systems.
- Inspections: Conduct regular vehicle inspections to identify and fix potential safety issues, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Diagnostics: Utilise diagnostic tools to accurately identify vehicle issues, interpret diagnostic codes, and determine the best course of action for repairs.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed reports of all maintenance and repair work performed, documenting parts used and time spent on each job.
- Compliance: Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and keep up-to-date with changes in regulations and industry standards.
- Customer Service: Communicate effectively with customers and supervisors about vehicle issues and repairs, ensuring customer satisfaction.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven track record in vehicle maintenance and repair management.
- At least 3 years’ experience in transport maintenance within a commercial vehicle workshop environment.
- NVQ level 3 in HGV service and maintenance (preferred).
- IRTEC Qualification would be advantageous.
- Category C+E driving licence (with no more than 6 penalty points).
- Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to use your own initiative.
